Caracas, 13 Sep. AVN .- The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tibisay Lucena, announced in a press conference this Tuesday that the presidential elections for the constitutional period 2013-2019 will be held on October 7, 2012.

Lucena said the Board of Directors of the CNE decided unanimously that the presidential, governors and municipal elections would be carried out on different dates.

Thus, elections for governors will take place in December 2012 and municipal elections in April 2013.

Lucena ratified that the CNE guarantees transparency and that the Constitution will be enforced in each electoral process.

Moreover, Lucena regretted the behavior of some members of the opposition who have tried to discredit the autonomy of the Electoral branch in past days.

“We have noticed that in the last few weeks some individuals … have been trying to confuse people, and create doubt about the institutionality in the country and the credibility of this Electoral Power.”
