Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced Sunday that his government would create a Ministry of Popular Power for Domestic Trade. The new ministry will develop distribution and trade policy for the internal market, in the initial stage of the economic recovery program.

“We need a thriving economy, which will develop and grow. To do so, we need a very powerful internal market and very well organized internal trade,” he said from the Cuartel la Montaña, Caracas, where the United Socialist Party of Venezuela’s congress was being held.

“It is necessary to pay attention to the details and to be a ministry that works closely with tradespeople and producers of every region.”

This decision is part of the Recovery and Economic Prosperity Plan promoted by the Venezuelan president, that includes price accords, salary raises, monetary reconversion and other actions in the financial sector.
