Venezuela: Artists Form National Guitar Network
Venezuelan musicians and and cultural authorities formed a national guitar network on Wednesday, aimed at promoting the instrument nationwide.
Caracas, February 20th 2013 (Prensa Latina) – Venezuelan musicians and and cultural authorities formed a national guitar network on Wednesday, aimed at promoting the instrument nationwide.
The network will be composed of representatives of Anzoategui, Aragua, Carabobo, Distrito Capital, Falcón, Lara, Merida, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, Vargas and Yaracuy.
Along with endorsing guitar events, the network will hold the National Guitar Congress at Choroní (Aragua).
The congress will include discussion on guitar education in conservatories, music schools and universities.
A spokesperson for the National Music Center (NMC) has stated that the network was established following a meeting with organisers of at least 21 guitar events.
According to NMC Operations Coordinator Ignacio Barreto, “From April we will have a lot of guitar activity throughout the nation, and the intention is to give institutional support to all these events”.
“This year we commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of the late maestro Rodrigo Riera (1923-1999), and on 12 November we will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Alirio Diaz,” he stated.
“[They are] two pillars of the Venezuelan guitar school, so all activities will be linked to these dates.”
November will also be declared the month of the guitar.
The International Guitar Seminar of Bolívar, International Guitar Festival of Caracas, International Festival of the Guitar Academy of Venezuela and the Alirio Diaz International Competition all take place during November.
