Mérida, April 11th 2010 (Venezuelanalysis.com) – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced on Friday that journalist Tania Diaz will replace Blanca Eekhout as minister of communication and information. He also announced a new minister of basic industry, José Khan.

Diaz has been president of state owned Venezuelan Television (VTV) since 28 January this year and is the host of the daily news show Dando y Dando (Giving and Giving).

Eekhout was minister of communications since April 2009 and is currently also president of the other state owned channel, Vive TV. She was also one of the founders of the community- based CatiaTV.

Last week, the president designated Jose Khan as the new minister of basic industry and mining. The minister will also president of the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG), as was his predecessor, Rodolfo Sanz.

This is Kahn’s second time in the position; his first was in 2007.
