Worm Composting in the Andes

High in Venezuela's Andes Mountains, women in the colorful rural town of Mixteque produce rich, fertile worm compost that is made from local organic garbage and used by local farmers. Their cooperative business, which was formed six years ago with a low-interest loan and training given by the government, provides a healthy alternative to contaminative fertilizers, as well as an empowering place for women to organize, work, and socialize outside of their homes. To read an interview with a leader of the cooperative, see Venezuela Speaks!
