Venezuela expells Colombian Ambassador

The Venezuelan government today ordered the "immediate expulsion" of the Colombian Ambassador to Venezuela in response to Colombia's military incursion into Ecuadorian territory on Saturday, amidst growing tensions between the neighboring countries.

Caracas, March 3, 2008- The Venezuelan government today ordered the “immediate expulsion” of the Colombian Ambassador to Venezuela in response to Colombia’s military incursion into Ecuadorian territory on Saturday, amidst growing tensions between the neighboring countries.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Nicholas Maduro made the announcement to the Venezuelan National Assembly this Monday as well as releasing an official statement.

The statement reads:

“The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in defense of the sovereignty of the homeland and the dignity of the Venezuelan people, has decided to order the immediate expulsion of the Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia in Venezuela from the national territory, and of all diplomatic personal from the Colombian Embassy in Caracas.”
