Legislators Present New Evidence of Opposition’s Hidden Agenda

Former Chamber of Commerce president Carlos Fernandez and an advisor to the union federation discuss CIA contact and destabilization

In a press conference today, pro-government legislators Nicolas Maduro, Juan Baretto, and Roger Rondón presented a taped telephone conversation between former Fedecamaras Chamber of Commerce president Carlos Fernandez and an advisor to the union federation CTV. In the conversation, Carlos Fernandez and the advisor mention contacts with the CIA and plans to contact different branches of Venezuela’s industry, presumably to organize a general strike.

In the conversation, which was presented to journalists today, Fernandez says, “The CIA wants to talk to us. Accept everything they say.” Also mentioned in the conversation is the need to get in touch with Thor Halborssen, someone who was convicted and imprisoned for organizing bombings in Venezuela over ten years ago.
