The hospital was inaugurated by late President Hugo Chavez on 20 August 2006, and has helped over 8,000 children.

Hector Rodríguez, Vice Minister for Social Affairs, said that the hospital was “a work of Commander Chavez’s revolution”.

“We feel very proud because it [the hospital] has given hope back to thousands of children,” he added, in comments to Telesur.
