Following the announcement of yet more White House sanctions against Venezuela yesterday, Venezuela’s government issued the following statement in rejection of Trump’s measures.

BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA

MINISTRY OF PEOPLE’S POWER FOR FOREIGN RELATIONS

COMMUNIQUE

The Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on behalf of the government and the heroic Venezuelan People, rejects and strongly condemns the alleged and new unilateral sanctions of the Donald Trump regime against the Venezuelan People and our financial and economic system.
These unilateral sanctions, in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the most elementary principles of International Law governing civilized relations between sovereign States, constitute a new imperial aggression aimed at intensifying the attack on our People, pretending by way of the commercial blockade, financial persecution and economic boycott, to cause chaos in our economy, thereby breaking the will of our People and their resolution of freedom, peace and hope.
According to the United Nations Special Rapporteur, Mr. Alfred de Zayas, with its actions the Trump Administration commits “a crime against humanity that may be presented at the International Criminal Court as a violation of Article 7 of the Statute of Rome”.
The Bolivarian Government denounces before the International Community the execution, once again, of a new conspiracy against the homeland of Bolivar, by the supremacist regime of the United States, whose purpose is to intensify the already repeated threats against our People, pretending with their interference, to subject us to a new colonialism, thus attacking the free Peoples of the world.
Venezuela has taken a tremendous step towards the future by launching a revolutionary economic mechanism such as the Petro, backed by more than 5 billion barrels of oil, which will allow the country to break the ties with the dollar, opening the doors to a firm consolidation of prosperity for our economic and productive system.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, despite this new and gross interference, ratifies before the International Community and other sectors of the global economy, its firm, absolute and sovereign decision to continue promoting the Blockchain technology and make the Petro one of the most solid and reliable cryptocurrencies in the world.
With our People and the Petro, we shall prevail!
