Chavez's Tour for a "Pluri-Polar World" and Book Release Event

Dear Readers,

Last Saturday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez returned from an eleven-day tour through northern Africa, western and eastern Europe, the Middle East and Eurasia. On the tour, he promoted the construction of a "pluri-polar world" through extensive bilateral ties with more than a dozen countries. He also took center stage at the Venice Film Festival alongside Oliver Stone. On the domestic front, the opposition television station Globovision is under investigation for allegedly calling for a coup d'etat, and the former director of Colombia's main intelligence agency revealed that the agency worked directly with the Venezuelan opposition to plot to overthrow the Chavez government.

This week in Venezuelan news...

 

It has been an interesting week, following the kidnapping of Honduran president Manuel Zelaya, and the subsequent coup in Honduras. The Venezuelan government has worked hard with various North and South American alliance organizations to create a united rejection of the coup. We also celebrated Venezuelan's independence day today, had a gay pride march last Sunday and the government fined the Polar company for illegally distributing beer.
