Latin America: Experiments in Radical Social Democracy provides an in depth and
accessible introduction to Latin American politics for people seeking to
understand this past tumultuous and hopeful decade. While avoiding superficial
analysis and simplistic leftist cheerleading, this book addresses the
complexity and diversity of the new Latin American left.
Greg Wilpert's book is important: important not only as an account of developments in Venezuela under Hugo Chávez between 1999-2007, but as a "critical interrogation" of Chávez' "socialism of the 21st Century," which should make it important for any individual or group that is seeking to create an alternative society to capitalism.
