Venezuela Rejects Coup that Overthrew President of Mali

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, represented by President Hugo Chavez, rejects the coup d'état that led to the overthrow of the president of the Republic of Mali, Amadou Toumani Toure, carried out by factions of the army of that nation.

Through a statement, issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, the National Government expressed its solidarity with the Malian people and President Amadou Toumani Toure.

STATEMENT

President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Commander Hugo Chavez, on behalf of the Venezuelan people and their government, expresses his concern for the disturbing actions currently being carried out by factions of the army of the Republic of Mali, which have led to the overthrow of the President Amadou Toumani Toure, unleashing political instability in that African country of democratic tradition.

In these difficult circumstances, the Bolivarian Government manifests its unconditional solidarity with the Malian people, and expresses its strongest rejection to this Coup d’État, and calls on the need to respect for the constitutional legitimacy that the republican institutions of Mali represent, including the president of the Republic and head of the State, Amadou Toumani Toure, to whom the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela demands the most scrupulous respect for his life and personal integrity.
