Preliminary Results of Venezuela’s Census Announced

Venezuela has a population of 27, 150, 095 inhabitants, reported the preliminary results of the 14th national census on population and housing, informed the president of the National Statistics Institute Elias Eljuri on Thursday.

In a press conference, Eljuri said the figure represents an annual growth rate of 1.6% compared to the census taken in 2001 and that of the overall amount of Venezuelans, 50.3% are women and 49.9% are men.

He added that 66.6% of the population is between 15 and 64 years old; 27.6% is between 0 and 14 years old; and 5.8% is 65 years old or more.

The census was taken in 7,147,904 homes, which represents an average 3.9 people per occupied family house.

Definite results are expected to be released during the second quarter of 2012, Eljuri informed.
