“Megarecall”

March 27th, 2004 to be the date for all recall rreferenda

The National Electoral Council, according to the news channel Globovision, is inclined to decide in favor of a “megarecall” referendum, on March 27th, assuming all of the legal requirements are fulfilled. This would mean that the recall referenda for the president, governors, national assembly deputies, and mayors, would all take place on the same day.

Before that can happen, however, at least 20% of voters have to sign petitions in favor of recall referenda. In the case of President Chavez, this would mean at least 2.4 million voters would have to sign their name in favor of the referendum. The petition-signing for recalling the president will take place November 28 to December 1.
